The Accident
We had just gotten back from vacation on Monday night July 26th. We were glad to be back a few days before school started back, so we could get some things done and Jessica was glad to be home so she could hang out with her friends. On Thursday she went with her Dad to Wide World of Sports to see the AAU Championship games as they have done for years together. They were gone all day and had a great time. A memory Tim can cherish forever. We decided to go to the beach on Friday. I knew Jessica wanted to go with her friends but I didn’t want her to drive. She was to go to Cocoa Beach. I remember that morning so well. I had gone in to tell her we were packing up our stuff to go and wanted to know who she was going with. She said she had to make some calls to see who was going. She got up, went to the kitchen to get her cereal and I walked in the kitchen after doing something’s and just saw how pretty she looked that morning for just getting up. She said she was trying to call some friends but no one could go. I asked her just to come with us but she didn’t want to she wanted to be with her friends that day. She said she might be going with
Brett and his friend Travis from out of town. They had hung out a couple of nights before. We asked her not to drive and she said
Brett would probably be driving. I told her to please be safe wear her seat belt and she knew what was right. I gave her a big hug that morning and told her I loved her. Her Dad came in from packing the car and gave her the same run down about being safe and doing the right thing he hugged her gave her a kiss and told her he loved her. I beeped her on her Nextel to find out who she finally decided to go with. She told me that she was going with
Brett and Travis and that
Brett was going to drive. I was glad she wasn’t driving and told her we loved her and to be careful. She beeped me back an hour later to tell me she had to take her truck but
Brett was going to drive. I was ok with that as well. I beeped her again when we got to the beach and she said she was wanting to go to Emily’s house after the beach and spend the night that she might come home first, I told her that was fine. To be careful. She beeped me again to let me know they were getting ready to come home. I told her we were going to stop and get something to eat and that I would see her later and that I loved her. I tried calling her after we got home but couldn’t
Get a hold of her. I tried again still no answer. I called her and left a message on her phone to call me back. No phone call. This was about 5:30 - 6:00 at this time. Took a shower and went to my neighbors to cook out. When I got there I tried to beep her again. No answer. I found out later that Janelle had called her at 7:00 and she said they were almost home.
Brett was driving, when they turned on Nova Road Jessica told him she wanted to drive so
Brett pulled over and they switched seats. So they were probably 45 min from the house. You see they decided to go to Daytona Beach instead of Cocoa. I didn’t know this till after the fact.
They came home the back way from Daytona Beach. They didn’t want to drive on I-4 coming home. I called Emily to see if Jessica had gotten there yet but her line was busy. Then I got a call from Emily as soon as I hung up. I asked her where Jessica was and she was calling me in tears saying she didn’t know. That
Brett and Travis were in intensive care that they had been in a wreak, all I could remember saying is Jessica was with
Brett and Emily saying I know. I yelled at Tim telling him what Emily had told me. The very next second we heard sirens and two police cars pulling up at our home. All I remember is going up to this young police officer and him telling me that Jessica was in a car accident and that she didn’t make it. The rest of the story you don’t want to know. It’s to personal to tell. We were in shock, disbelieve, anger, denial, confusion, helplessness. Feelings that no one should have to go through in there life time.
Jessica went to pass another car and over corrected her self,
she flipped many times. She was thrown from her truck and killed instantly.
Brett had two collapsed lungs and Travis had a collapsed lung and a broken rib. Thank God they both are doing fine today. All we could think of was this is not happening to us, It’s not real, Please wake us up from this horrible dream. We woke up but it was no dream. She took a piece of our hearts with her that can never be replaced.
